Bring on the bling - Beta Lactam infusions in critically ill sepsis patients

Unless you're a career researcher, it's easy to underestimate the effort and drive required to bring a research program to fruition.

The BLING 3 trial (Beta lactic infusions in sepsis patients) is a phase three trial about to kick off.  This trial will be monumental in itself, aiming to recruit over 7000 patients in 100 ICUs around the world.  To pull that off alone is an incredible effort.

But it's easy to overlook the program of research that has been more than a decade in the making.  Bench studies, campaigning for funding, early clinical trials, more campaigning, presenting, enthusing...

Finally, BLING 3 is ready to go.  During this interview from the ANZICS CTG meeting in Noosa in 2017, Principle Investigator Jeff Lipman from the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia has the nervous anticipation of a father about to walk his daughter down the aisle.
